January Things To Do

December 16, 2024

Yachats

January 1st at 9:30 AM — New Year’s Day Peace Hike

The Peace Hike traditionally honors the memory of a blind Native American (Coos) woman named Amanda who was forcibly taken away from her daughter and marched 80 miles with other captives all barefoot through the rocky terrain to the Alsea Sub-agency prison camp in what is now Yachats in 1864.

October 2024 through March 2025 — Yachats Mushroom Treasure Hunt

From October 2024 through March 2025, the Yachats Area Chamber of Commerce and the “Trail Gnomes” set out and hide mushrooms made out of glass and porcelain by local artists Rasa Clay Works and Holmes Birdwell Glass Art . Check in each Saturday morning for where they set the mushrooms as clues will be at www.YachatsTreasureHunt.com and on our @visit.yachats Instagram.

The Lincoln County Historical Society is pleased to present a new exhibition that expands that narrative to include the many Black whalers, commercial mariners, fishers, explorers, soldiers, and sailors who traveled along the Pacific Coast and traversed the high seas from the 16th century to the present day. “Take Me to the Water: Histories of the Black Pacific” tells the stories of these mariners, their impact in shaping the American Pacific, and their legacy in the context of development of society and identity.

The Christmas Brunch sold out.  But you are in luck!  We are having a 7 Course Brunch for the Public on New Year’s Day, January 1st.  The Keeper’s Home will still be decorated for Christmas.  Reservations are required. Brunch is served family style at a communal table at noon sharp and lasts 2 hours. Appropriate for children 10 and older. $74/person, includes service charge for staff. Please call 866-547-3696 to secure your spot!

January 11th through 13th — Oregon King Tides

As winter approaches, the Oregon coast is gearing up for the 2024 King Tides, one of nature’s most spectacular displays. These tides, known scientifically as perigean spring tides, occur when the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun align to create the highest water levels of the year. View them from the Heceta Head Lighthouse!
